Some are bragging they have gotten the shot in order to better their chances, while others are using it to justify what one singleton described as 'the most 2021 rejection ever.' Vaccinated people have better dating lives.
On Friday, the White House announced its latest initiative aimed at improving vaccine confidence: a partnership with popular dating apps.
Users of apps, including Tinder, OkCupid, Bumble, and BLK, will now be able to add badges showing their vaccinated status on their profiles.
'According to one of these sites, OkCupid, people who display their vaccination status are 14% more likely to get a match,' White House senior adviser for COVID-19 response Andy Slavitt said Friday.

The partnership is part of a push by the Biden administration to hit its goal of getting 70% of adults at least partially vaccinated by July 4. While more than 60% of U.S. adults have gotten at least one shot, the rate of vaccines may have started levelling off in recent weeks, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. In early May, the KFF Vaccine Monitor found that, while about half of young adults aged 18-29 were vaccinated, a quarter of those who haven't been vaccinated said they wanted to 'wait and see,' higher than any other age group.
'We do know that, in addition to schooling, financial loss, stress levels, the pandemic has also had a negative impact on young people's social lives,' Slavitt said. 'Social distancing and dating were always a bit of a challenging combination.'
The participating dating apps will also offer vaccinated people premium content, like the ability to like more people and the ability to filter only other vaccinated people. Some apps will also include educational content on vaccines. Even before the initiative, some people had already started sharing their vaccine status on dating apps.
Statewide and nationwide vaccine incentives, including free donuts and lotteries, have grown in recent weeks across the U.S., developments Slavitt praised on Friday.
'From the data, we've seen they appear to be working,' he said. 'I think the reason they work is because the vast number of people who are not yet vaccinated are actually not opposed to getting vaccinated. They're just not prioritizing it very high.'
